As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 under the initiative of Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Department, Govt. of Mizoram, a Permanent Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Centre was inaugurated on 14th August 2025 at the Government Multi-utility Centre, Thakthing by Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, UD&PA Department.
The RRR Centre is scheduled to open to the public starting 18th August 2025. The primary aim of this Centre is to promote the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle among citizens — echoing the well-known phrase, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."
In the lead-up to the inauguration, used items were donated and collected from various localities with active support from Self Help Groups (SHGs) under DAY-NULM. As of now, the following items have been collected:
• Clothes: 1,064
• Shoes: 69
• Utensils: 430
• Books: 386
• Toys: 33
• Bags: 26
• Blankets: 13
The RRR Centre will function as a drop-off point for usable, functional, and recyclable items. It welcomes donations from citizens and provides access to these items for those in need, especially the urban poor. The Centre will be managed by members of local SHGs, ensuring community involvement and ownership. Building on the success of the previous Swap & Save Campaign – RRR Centre for used school items, it is anticipated that this permanent facility will significantly contribute to reducing landfill waste, promoting recycling, and supporting the broader goals of sustainable urban development.
